“Wolfgang Block presented an interactive perception machine at “operational tests”, consisting of two parts connected by a transmission wire. To activate the object titled “in between” two persons are needed. One of them steps under a helmet hanging from the ceiling and watches a small screen on which everything the other person targets with the video camera appears. This video camera is inserted into a rugby egg, which at the same time displays the face of the first person. Looking and seeing is decoupled from the (more or less) conscious eye, head and body movements by Wolfgang Block’s apparatus, isolated as an act of perception and remote controlled. With “in between” Wolfgang Block asks in a vivid and entertaining ways the question about the truth of vision and it’s degree of reality.”
“Wolfgang Block stellte bei “operational tests” eine interaktive Wahrnehmungsmaschine vor, die aus zwei, durch ein Übertragungskabel verbundenen Teilen besteht. Für eine Aktivierung dieser mit “in between” benannten Arbeit bedarf es zweier Personen. Die eine stellt sich unter den von der Decke hängenden grauen Helm und schaut in den kleinen Screen im Helm, auf dem all das erscheint, was die zweite Person momentan mit einer Videokamera anvisiert. Diese Videokamera ist in ein Rugby-Ei eingelassen, in dem gleichzeitig “live” das Gesicht der ersten Person erscheint. Blicken und Sehen wird durch Blocks Apparatur von der (mehr oder weniger) bewussten Augen-, Kopf- und Körperbewegung entkoppelt, als Wahrnehmungsakt isoliert und ferngesteuert. Mit “in between” stellt Wolfgang Block auf anschauliche und unterhaltsame Weise die Frage nach der Wahrheit des Blicks und seinem Realitätsgehalt.”
